The Happy Donkey Hand-Painted Fayoum Pottery Dessert Plate brings one of our most cheerful characters to the table. First created for our Happy Donkey Container, the design grew out of a collaboration between ANUT Cairo and Fayoum potter Mai: a loosely drawn donkey in blue and green with an expression that is difficult not to smile at. For the dessert plate, our donkey is surrounded by delicate leafy sprigs, giving him the feeling of having wandered into a rather lovely garden. Each plate is painted entirely by hand in Fayoum, so the brushstrokes, markings and character vary subtly from one to the next — no two donkeys are ever quite identical. Made for cake, fruit, dessert or afternoon tea, it is the sort of plate that doesn’t need to wait for an occasion.
